Bloom Energy, headquartered in Sunnyvale, CA, recently unveiled its Bloom Box, a self-generating, zero emissions source of electricity.

The brainchild of a former NASA rocket scientist, the Bloom Box is a new type of fuel cell that is comparable to a battery.  Oxygen is pumped into one side and fuel in another.  When both are combined, electricity is produced, eliminating the need for combustion.

Twenty large and well-known companies, including FedEx and eBay, are currently trying Bloom.  "When you average it over seven days a week, 24 hours a day, the Bloom box puts out five times as much power that we can actually use," stated eBay CEO John Donahoe during an interview with CBS.
