As one of the original principals in the Dewey Square Group’s Boston practice, Tom McShane specializes in the coordination of strategic campaigns of environmental and energy policy issues, major project development permitting, and environmental impact review compliance.
For 12 years, Tom was the primary environmental lobbyist for the Massachusetts executive branch under three different Administrations by building the coalitions and consensus for environmental statutes. Later, as Executive Office of Environmental Affairs Chief of Staff, he managed the Secretary’s strategic internal and external communications plans. In 1991, Governor William Weld appointed Tom as the Undersecretary of the Executive Office of Environmental Affairs, becoming the state’s second ranking environmental official.
Tom remains deeply involved in the Walden Woods Project and the Thoreau Institute. He is one of the founding directors of the Island Alliance, helping Boston’s Harbor Islands become a National Park. He has also served as co-chairman of the Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce Energy & Environment Committee and as Chairman of the Massachusetts League of Environmental Voters.
