Carrie James, an associate of the Dewey Square Group, has seven years of campaign experience at the national level. At DSG, James focuses on designing and executing strategic communications campaigns.

Prior to joining DSG, James worked in Washington, D.C. as a regional press secretary at the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. During her tenure with the DCCC she provided strategic counsel for more than 20 U.S. House races in the Northeast region of the country as well as in Minnesota and Maryland, aiding in the election of seven of the 24 overall Democratic gains and zero incumbent losses in the 2008 elections. She also served as a spokesperson for the committee and worked with campaigns throughout the region to craft messages that resonated with their target audiences.

From 2005 to 2007, James worked in House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s communications office, coordinating messaging and crafting events among over 200 House offices in the Democratic Caucus. In 2006, she took a six-month leave of absence to serve as communications director to congressional candidate Patrick Murphy in Pennsylvania’s eighth congressional district. Murphy won a hard fought victory and has built a strong reputation as the first Iraq War veteran in the U.S. Congress.

During the 2004 presidential campaign, James worked in Senator John Kerry’s office on the press advance desk. During the general election, James traveled with Vice Presidential candidate John Edwards and later joined Senator John Kerry’s traveling press staff, serving as liaison to the national traveling press corps of 130 national reporters.
