Our Approach

You Get “SEM” (Storytelling, Emotional & Memorable Ads). We use simple storytelling and crisp images that are based on emotion—how the audience feels and where they live. It never works to tell them what to think. 

Creating a Narrative. It is that narrative that answers the question: “Why should I care and why should I act?” 

Culturally Appropriate Messaging. We go into a community and get to know it, how it talks, how it sees itself. Then we create communication materials that are attentive to that particular community. We emulate their values, desires and ideas to create the message.

Case Studies

Obama for America

The Southwest held two crucial purple states, Colorado and New Mexico. And, they can vote early. The goal was to persuade and to motivate folks to vote before Election Day. We created an integrated message plan that included mail, online, field, phones, TV and radio. We won both, increasing early turnout well beyond program goals.

League of Conservation Voters

LCV’s Dirty Dozen got a new look using cut-and-paste art and humor. We also produced other booklets and voter guides.


VoteVets

VoteVets is an organization dedicated to giving voice to Iraq War Veterans that support progressive policies. We used photos of Vets and told their story to give a fuller perspective and accounting of candidates’ votes and policies.


AFL-CIO

For the AFL-CIO, creating a connection between work and workers’ rights is paramount. We captured over 3,000 pictures and organized these moving portraits for everyone’s use. Then, we produced mail that captured the spirit of America’s workers.




Sorenson Communications

Sorenson makes TDY machines for the deaf community. The Americans with Disabilities Act makes these machines accessible through education, marketing and reduced cost. Funding cuts have been proposed several times over a few years. Each time we mobilized and grew response rates from 35% to above 50%. We also created a permanent activist list that included all contact information.

Multicultural

We have tested, argued, photographed and mailed to countless different cultures. We have written mailers in a couple of dozen languages. We use powerful photos and messages to create powerful connections.
