As a veteran of national and statewide campaigns, in addition to serving as Chief of Staff and Press Secretary to Congressman Steny Hoyer on Capitol Hill, Johanson has more than 25 years of electoral and legislative experience.  In 2006, Johanson worked with Congressman Rahm Emanuel as the executive director of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.  She designed the largest congressional voter turnout operation in history, an $11.5 million effort covering 36 congressional districts.  The Washington Post called her one of the architects of the Democratic takeover of the House.

During the 2004 election cycle, Johanson was Florida State Director for America Coming Together, where she created a statewide organization with 65 full-time staffers in eight offices and ran that heavily targeted state’s voter turnout campaign.  She is also a long time strategist for EMILY’s List, a political organization dedicated to electing Democratic women to office.

Johanson lives in Washington, D.C. and has a B.A. from American University.
