Margaret Lyons

Margaret Lyons is a principal in Dewey Square Group’s Sacramento practice. Lyons has spent the past 25 years helping inform, educate and engage policymakers, opinion leaders and the public on important public policy issues in California and nationally.

Lyons is director of WE Connect, a unique public/private partnership between the First Lady of California Maria Shriver, Intuit and other major corporate and media partners that helps connect California’s working poor to programs and services for which they may be eligible. This innovative program has become a national model and has expanded to 24 states.  Additionally, Lyons has developed strategic partnerships with La Opinión, Univision, the California Black Media Association and major corporations to build support for We Connect.

Lyons has also been the driving force behind the creation of WE Invest, a partnership with the California Governor and First Lady's Conference on Women in California. In both programs, Lyons developed the program strategy and led the implementation team to achieve the goals set out with First Lady Maria Shriver.

Prior to joining Dewey Square in 2007, Lyons created @issue Consulting Group, Inc., a full service communications and public affairs firm committed to elevating the public debate on health issues and contributing to positive change.  Most of her career has been spent in applying private sector strategies to public sector problems with the goal of achieving fundamental improvements in the lives of individuals, communities, institutions and the nation as a whole.
