Tamara Torlakson is a Senior Associate in the Dewey Square Group's California Practice. Tamara’s work has been focused on event coordination and programming, grassroots and grass tops outreach, and development for clients in both the public and non-profit arenas.

Tamara works on outreach and development for Best Buddies International, a nonprofit organization founded by Anthony Kennedy Shriver dedicated to establishing a global volunteer movement that creates opportunities for one-to-one friendships, integrated employment and leadership development for people with intellectual and development disabilities (IDD).

In 2011, Tamara worked on the Special Olympics World Summer Games in Athens, Greece. Tamara helped to develop a successful conversation series that took place at the World Summer Games for key stakeholders from around the world.

Tamara worked closely on the preparation and implementation of The Women’s Conference in 2008, 2009, and 2010, hosted by former First Lady of California, Maria Shriver. Tamara also helped coordinate the preparation and logistics of large and small-scale community events for the WE Connect campaign. WE Connect is a unique public/private partnership between the State of California, Intuit and other major corporate and media partners that helps link California’s working families with programs and services for which they may be eligible, such as the Earned Income Tax Credit.

Using skills from her experiences at DSG, Tamara volunteered on the campaign of her father, Assemblymember Tom Torlakson, in his successful bid to become California’s State Superintendent of Public Instruction in 2010. Her focus was to engage youth through social networking sites and through grassroots efforts, helping secure a key endorsement from the California Young Democrats.

Tamara graduated from the University of California, Santa Cruz in 2008 with a BA in U.S. History. During her college career, she participated in the University of California Washington, D.C. program where she interned for U.S. Senator Dianne Feinstein. Tamara was also team captain of the NCAA Cross Country Team and became the first runner from her school to qualify for the NCAA National Championships.
