Fresh from the Obama administration’s Department of Commerce, Ellen Moran joined the Dewey Square Group as a principal in 2012, bringing with her over two decades of experience working in the highest levels of government, Democratic politics, and communications. Her experience working with business leaders, organized labor as well as managing national organizations and campaigns enables her to help our clients by successfully running integrated campaigns that are well-designed and effectively executed.
Prior to joining DSG, Ellen served as Chief of Staff and chief advisor to Secretary of Commerce Gary Locke after serving the Obama administration in 2009 as the White House communications director. Before joining the White House staff, Ellen served for four years as executive director of EMILY’s List, the nation’s largest resource for Democratic women candidates.
Ellen has managed some of the country’s largest Democratic advertising campaigns: in 2004 she designed and managed the national independent expenditure program of the Democratic National Committee, and in 2000 she ran the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee’s $50 million issue advocacy campaign. Ellen’s political career includes work for the AFL-CIO, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), management of gubernatorial, U.S. Senate, and U.S. House campaigns, field organizing for Senator Tom Harkin’s 1992 presidential campaign and work on both inaugurals for President Clinton.
As an acknowledged expert on women in politics, she has been a guest lecturer at American University. A native of Amherst, Massachusetts, Ellen lives in Washington, D.C. with her husband and two children.
