With more than 17 years of experience in public relations and newspaper reporting, Tony Welch is a major player in the Dewey Square Group’s Washington, D.C. communications practice, applying his expertise to advocacy campaigns and media outreach.
Previously, Tony served as press secretary for the Democratic National Committee (DNC). Before joining the DNC as the party’s national spokesman, he made his career in Florida and served as the communications director for the Florida Education Association (FEA), the union representing 122,000 teachers and education professionals.
Prior to joining FEA, he spent four years as communications director for the Florida Democratic Party and in 2000, worked with the Gore/Lieberman presidential coordinated campaign. He also worked in the administration of Governor Lawton Chiles (D-FL) as communications director for the Florida Department of Health.
Tony began his career as a journalist for the Pensacola News Journal and the Tallahassee Democrat newspapers.
Tony lives in Silver Spring with his wife and two daughters.
