Dewey Square Group Expands California Practice in New Location
Sacramento Office welcomes Melanie Slocum as Senior Associate, Lilian Duong as Associate.
SACRAMENTO, Calif., April 4, 2019 — The Dewey Square Group (DSG), a national public affairs firm, announced today that Melanie Slocum, former digital communications strategist at AFSCME Local 3930 (UDW) has joined the firm as Senior Associate in its Sacramento office. Lilian Duong also joined the Sacramento office as Associate. DSG is also announcing that George Hatamiya has been promoted to Associate.
The expanded office recently moved from its former midtown location to the Esquire Building at 1215 K Street, Suite 1220.
DSG’s California Practice, led by Erin Boltz, provides public affairs, communications and advocacy strategies on a wide range of issues in California. The current portfolio of work includes helping clients expand ridesharing and other innovative technologies; navigating public perception and changing policies related to California’s water future; advancing tech neutral energy policies; and running effective public affairs campaigns in the nascent but dynamic cannabis space. DSG’s California clients include Fortune 100 and ground-breaking startup companies as well as nonprofits, foundations and educational institutions.
Melanie Slocum builds and manages broad coalitions for legislative and regulatory issue campaigns, develops messaging and provides strategic guidance on digital advocacy efforts for clients. Prior to DSG, Melanie strategized digital communications for UDW, using digital tools to organize domestic workers and bolster progressive efforts in the California legislature. She also worked at Bicker, Castillo & Fairbanks Public Affairs for four years where she developed public affairs and digital advocacy campaigns.
George Hatamiya helps develop communications programs and campaign strategies for a a range of clients. Prior to joining DSG, George worked at private equity firm CVF Capital Partners and in the office of Congresswoman Doris Matsui (D-CA), and was a research associate with the Hatamiya Group, an economic advisory consulting firm.
Lilian Duong helps create effective messaging and campaign strategies to achieve clients’ legislative and public policy goals. A recent UC Berkeley graduate, Lilian has a degree in Cognitive Science and worked in the California Legislature for two different members with portfolios ranging from public health to energy issues.
