Jon Carvalho is a Principal in Dewey Square Group’s Communications practice, working with a variety of clients including national trade associations, nonprofit organizations, private sector companies, and issue advocacy campaigns on advancing their reputational and public policy goals.
Before joining DSG, Jon served as deputy chief of staff and press secretary to Mayor Jon Mitchell of New Bedford, Massachusetts, where he led communications and media relations for city government, along with special projects related to education policy. In the Mayor’s Office, he managed the city’s communications response to crises including the COVID-19 pandemic, a ransomware attack, and major public safety incidents.
Jon previously worked as communications director for an urban school district, and as a newspaper reporter covering government and politics.
He received a B.A. in journalism from the University of Massachusetts Amherst.
