Sam English

Sam English is an Associate in Dewey Square Group's Grassroots practice.

Prior to joining DSG, Sam worked as a government relations intern at Brownstein Hyatt Farber Schreck, a full-service law and lobbying firm providing clients with legal, legislative, and regulatory counsel across a wide range of industries including energy, education, healthcare, finance, and real estate.

Born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland, Sam participated in community organizing with Baltimoreans United in Leadership Development (BUILD) from an early age, advocating for key issues including criminal justice and public education reform, affordable housing, and employment opportunities. He also volunteered and interned with Turnaround Tuesday, a jobs movement across Baltimore City aimed at supporting formerly incarcerated individuals in gaining employment. Through his community organizing work, Sam canvassed neighborhoods, registered voters, and worked to mobilize communities around electoral participation.

Sam received a B.A. in Sociology and Africana Studies from the University of Pittsburgh. During his time at Pitt, he served as a research and project coordinator for Space for Voice, researching student grievances, developing policy recommendations, and presenting findings to university leadership that drove improvements. He also served as a research developer for the African Tribe Bridge Institute, developing an educational framework on identity politics adopted by the University of Pittsburgh's Center for Race and Social Problems.
